If you are unsure how to get your blog noticed This article is suitable for you. You’ll find there are many individuals with blogs, specifically in our industry However, a lot of them are having trouble getting attention and traffic. There are 3 main reasons for this:
- They didn’t make the necessary steps to set up their blog in the correct way, with an initial Blog Promotion Strategy
- They don’t have an Ongoing Blog Promotion Strategy
- They don’t post regularly.
I’m going to address these issues one by one and give you a systematic approachso you understand step-by step how to promote your blog.
How to Promote Your Blog – A Systematic Approach
I’m going to assume here that , if you’re trying to promote a blog, that you have self-hosted wordpress blogs. Your blog isn’t the blog that is hosted on wordpress.com. Your site is hosted by your own domain and paying for the host via a hosting company such as HostGator and Dreamhost. Also, you are not using an Blogger.com blog or Drupal or Joomla website. It’s not because Drupal or Joomla aren’t good, I’m just not as familiar with those formats and want to stay in my area of expertise. Self-hosted WordPress blogs are pretty much the norm for our business because of their simplicity as well as their flexibility and expandability So if you’re not currently using one, I would suggest that you get one whenever practical.
This blog’s promotion plan is broken into two phases, as well as two articles. This first article will cover Phase 1, the first blog promotion Strategy. It is a single event that takes place before you begin regularly blogging to make sure you have all the necessary plugins installed and have taken the appropriate measures to make sure that your blog is in good shape to be promoted.
The subsequent article will go over the phase 2 that is the ongoing blog promotion Strategy. A checklist that you will complete each when you publish a new blog post, to ensure you receive exposure, traffic and comments, as well as opt-ins, shares, and decent results on search engines. I am not going to dive too deeply into SEO in this article, but I do plan to write another article about my top recommendations to optimize your blog content for search engine optimization. Now that we have this in mind, let’s go to Phase 1.
Promoting Your Blog – Phase 1: Initial Promotion Strategy
- Create your ping list A Ping list is a list of websites that listen for new content on the web. One of the first steps should be setting up your ping list by copying an e-mail list with ping services that WordPress provides. There is a great list on wordpress.org. After you have copied the list, you need to paste it in the Writing Section of your WordPress blog’s settings. In your dashboard, go to Settings>Writing , then paste the list in the box titled ‘Update Services Then click ‘Save. Each time you post your blog’s latest post all of these services will be informed and you’ll start seeing traffic for your website.
- Install Feedburner Feedburner offers a method for your visitors to sign-up to the latest blog content. You want people who enjoy your content to come back to your website, and Feedburner provides them with a means to join your blog and get notified when you post new content. This means you get more traffic than the time it takes for them to keep track of your blog regularly. To setup Feedburner simply visit feedburner and set up an account. You’ll have to enter the URL of the feed which is, most of the time, will just be yourdomain.com/feed. There are other options to play with but when you submit your feed to feedburner, you’re all set for your customers to sign up for your latest content.
- Install a reliable SEO plugin: There are several paid and free plugins that help you ensure that each blog post that you write has specific characteristics that will make it more attractive in search engines. I’m in the process of installing WordPress SEO, a plugin by Yoast It is a no-cost plugin. Another alternative would be SEO Pressor, which is a paid option but offers greater functionality and automation. These plugins can help ensure that your on-page SEO is working properly.

https://www.ailoq.com/ - Submit your RSS Feed and Blog to Directories: The reason you should submit your RSS Feed and Blog to directories is the same as maintaining a ping list. You submit your RSS feed and URL to notify different directories that your blog is up and running, and to keep them informed of your latest blog posts. These directories are visited by people seeking the type of content you have to offer. The key to this procedure is to ensure that you submit to the proper category, to match your content to the audience you intend to reach. A quick search on Google will reveal a wealth of RSS and blog directories with which you can submit your site and your feed. There are free as well as paid choices. Some sites will require reciprocal links. There are also services that submit these directories for you which can be a good deal, if your budget allows.
- Register with social Bookmarking AccountsSocial Bookmarking can be compared to the bookmarking you perform in your internet browser, but you’re doing it in a public manner on a website. This makes the pages you bookmark public to the people with similar interests on that particular site. In turn, those who share your interests can be notified of your new blog posts as you bookmark them. This drives the site’s visitors as they share your interests and could be interested in what you’re reading and bookmarking. A tip for social bookmarking is to make sure you don’t simply bookmark your own books in order to not appear self-serving. Be honest in the articles that you bookmark. You should also save articles from a variety of sources and not only your own. It’s also important to interact and build relationships with the people on the social sites to ensure that your existing audience grows and you get more traffic. Some of the most popular social bookmarking sites are reddit, digg and stumbleupon and delicious. Diigo, and hubpages. Social bookmarking websites are slowly being overtaken by Facebook and Twitter as the goto sharing websites, yet they’re still useful in increasing traffic.
- Sign up for a Social Bookmarking Automation Tool: There are tools that automate submission to the various social bookmarking sites you’ll be submitting content to. One of the best out there is Onlywire. The use of Onlywire can drastically cut down on the time required to login to each social bookmarking site and manually add your bookmark. After you’ve setup your accounts on various social bookmarking sites and you’re able to update all of your bookmarks on the touch of one button. There’s a complimentary version and a premium version Onlywire. The main difference is the free version is limited to the number that you can submit each month. It’s best to start using an unpaid version for a while until you’ve gotten used to the platform and you have all your accounts in place. When you’ve begun to promote your blog frequently, you may want to upgrade to a paid-for version.
- Sign up for an autoresponder service and set up Blog Broadcast: One of the most effective ways to get regular traffic to your blog is by sending your email subscribers a Blog Broadcast. There are a variety of choices for autoresponder services. Most popular services utilized by network marketers is GetResponse. Personally, I prefer Aweber but it’s perfect for me. They’re basically the same with regards to features at all price levels. After choosing one, you’ll be required to put an opt-in-form on your site that you’ll use to record the email addresses of your customers (or name and email addresses). It is necessary to offer something of a prize so that the majority of users are likely to provide you with their name and email. The prize must be something that is appealing to the person who is interested, such as an audio mp3, or videos or ebooks which gives them valuable information. It could also include the prospect with a guideline that teaches them how to solve a problem they’re facing. Once they opt in to your list and supply you with an email address you can deliver them Blog Broadcasts via your autoresponder service. A Blog Broadcast is simply an automated email or semi-automated one that you can send to your subscriber list that contains the contents of your blog post. It is coordinated by linking your autoresponder to the feed feed for your blog’s RSS; the service then starts listening for any new blog posts. When it’s informed you have written your latest post, it can send the article to your subscribers automatically. The best way to do this to do this, and the method I utilize it, is to keep the emails ready to go out, but I must release the email to my list before the email is sent. This gives me the opportunity to personalize the emails a little more so they read better and to tailor them to my readers. I do not recommend setting the blog broadcast to fully automated.
